Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy wins first ever Oscar award for Pakistan

A Pakistani documentary ‘saving face’ produced by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has won the Oscars Award at Hollywood in Los Angeles.

It is the first time in Oscar’s 84 years history that Pakistan has won the Oscar award. Sharing her comments on the occasion‚ Sharmeen Obaid dedicated the award to the women and those working for women rights in Pakistan. Saving face’ is based on violence against women, particularly acid throwing on them narrated by survivors through their personal endurance, recovery and reconciliation. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have felicitated Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for winning the Oscar Award. Describing the award as a great distinction for the nation‚ Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said it implies the positive image of Pakistan. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani announced conferring the highest civil award for Sharmeen Chinoy on winning Oscar Award for her documentary film. Minister for information and broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan has also felicitated Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for earning the distinction for Pakistan.
